Past-presidents Melissa LeVangie and Bear LeVangie featured in new book

Witness Tree book coverPast New England Chapter ISA Presidents Melissa Levangie and Bear LeVangie are featured in a new book, Witness Tree: Seasons of Change with a Century-Old Oak, by Lynda V. Mapes. Mapes, an environmental reporter for the Seattle Times spent time at the Harvard Forest in Petersham, MA, both as an MIT Knight Fellow and as a Harvard Forest Bullard Fellow.

Mapes wanted to study climate change through one tree, a red oak in Harvard Forest. Mapes lived at the Harvard Forest, studying her tree in all seasons and from all perspectives, thanks to Melissa and Bear, who helped Mapes learn how to climb. Mapes took to climbing and later participated (twice!) in the Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop.

Congratulations Melissa and Bear and thank you for your generosity in sharing your love of trees and climbing!
