New England Chapter ISA to Offer Day of Safety!
The New England Chapter ISA is announcing an all-new, two-part, Day of Safety. The day will begin with education sessions including: Setting up a Work/Chipper Zone, Chainsaw Safety, Life Support Gear Inspection, and Stop the Bleed Training and will culminate in a friendly competition with amazing prizes!
The event will take place at New Hampshire's Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury New Hampshire on August 28th, 2021 from 7:30am to 5:500pm. The one-day event will kick off with some very important arboriculture education. The program is focused on the tree climber/tree worker but includes safety information that every arborist can benefit from. The morning session will be capped off by an educational tree planting. The New England Chapter ISA will be donating a tree to the Canterbury Shaker Village.
The afternoon session will feature a friendly competition, but with an incredible grand prize! The overall male and female winner will be determined based on overall time. The winners will each receive the 2021 ArborMaster Prize Package! The events will include a "Rake Off" which is an obstacle course that will include on-the-job challenges faced by tree workers/ground workers. The second event will be a "Flake Off" flaking is a term to describe returning a climbing line to a rope bag. The third event will be "Throw Line" where participants will be responsible for using a weighted throw line to reach targets will be on the ground. The fourth event is the "Knot Board" where participants will be assigned knots to tie with a time limit. The last event is the "Port-a-Wrap" where participants will be asked to set a port-a-wrap, a device used for controlling limbs of wood being lowered from the tree.
The New England Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (NEC-ISA) is a member organization for arborists and urban foresters. Canterbury Shaker Village is an internationally-known non-profit museum founded in 1969 to preserve the heritage of the Canterbury Shakers. Designated as a National Historic Landmark for its architectural integrity and significance, the Village has 25 restored original Shaker buildings, 4 reconstructed Shaker buildings, and 694 acres of forests, fields, gardens, nature trails, and mill ponds under permanent conservation easement.
